Flipnote Studio

Flipnote Studio. Known as うごくメモ帳 (ugoku memo chou) in Japan. Caramelldansen on the DSi. ‘Nuff said.

Seriously, though… Flipnote Studio, a free download from the DSi Shop, is amazing. I have an unsteady hand, and am terrible at drawing still images, let alone animations, but still find the game addictive. The fact it’s coupled with Flipnote Hatena makes it all the more enjoyable. Folks can create flipnotes, from simple single-frame drawings to awe-inspiring animations, and share them with the world. The website allows everyone to view flipnotes from around the world (Japan, Americas, Oceania and Europe), but on the DSi, users are limited to their own region. The region-limitations are lame, I don’t understand the reason for them, and hope they’re eliminated before long.

There was more I intended to write about the program, but since I let this post rot as a draft for a few weeks, I’ve completely forgotten what else I wanted to write…

So if you’re bored, I invite you to check out my flipnotes. After you’ve seen my mediorce works, check out the flipnotes made by folks with skill. It’s amazing what some can do armed with naught but a DSi and Flipnote Studio.
